I am not picking just a panel from the Maus book; I am picking the whole series from the comic book that he did over his mothers and when she killed herself. I think his is a very dark and different side to Art Spiegelman. With this part added in to Maus it really helps us understand how he was feeling after his mother’s death. If this part was not in the book it would be very hard to explain and show us how he and his father were feeling after his mother’s funeral. I think by added this into the story it conveys the idea that the war was very hard on his mother and father. I saw it throughout the book how his father has changed. He never wants to buy anything new or pay anyone to help him because he wants to save all the money he can just in case something happens again.
Maus graphic
This is the second time I have had the opportunity to read Maus. I really enjoyed reading Maus both times. I read it for the first time last year in my senior English class. I really did not pay much attention to the graphics because I was just reading the book to finish it fast. This time I did pay more attention to the graphic and how they improve the story in my opinion. The book Maus works for me. I am a person for likes to be able to see what is going on. I am not great at reading something and trying to picture what is going on in my mind. That is why I think the graphic help me and I bet the graphic also helped a lot of other readers to understand the story of Vladek Spiegelman.
I think the graphic format is a plus for this book. I do not think the book would have been as successful if it was written like the style of Into the Wild. The pictures are what are telling the story for the most part. If the pictures were not added in this book it would not seem are real to me. I see the characters and I know that they are to represent real people and that makes me care more about them. I find the fact that he makes the different characters cats, mice or pigs. This is very interesting part in this book. I think he did this because in real life cats eat mice and kill them. Just like in the book. Over all I would say that the graphics in this book are a major plus to the reader to understand and to enjoy it.
What I would do
I think it would be fun to run away for about a week. I’m one of those people that miss my family like crazy if I don’t see them very much. I think if I was going to run away it would just last for about a week or maybe two, but I think it would be a lot of fun and very interesting if I could travel to Kansas and Oklahoma. I don’t think I would consider it running away because I think I would just end up moving out there. I think I would use my money to get a ticket and I would fly there because there is no way I could make it there in a week. I have always wanted to go west. The farthest west I have been is Illinois. I have been all the way to West Virginia and that was just fine with me. I have also been to Florida, so I have been south and east just not really to the west. I think I would really enjoy getting to see the country in Kansas and Oklahoma. I have many friends who have been out there and they loved it. I think I might fall in love with the land also. If I went out there and was going to start a new live I think I would keep my first name. I don’t think I would change it just in case something would happen to me like what happened to Chris. I think I would also keep my money and use it to help me start my new life. I would need a place to live so I would start looking for a house or an apartment to live in. I would also need a job to survive so I would start job looking. A job that I know I would enjoy a lot would be to work on a farm/ranch. I love animals and I have always dreams of working with animals all my life. This way I would be able to do what I have wanted to do all my life. Since I have grown up on a farm, I know I would enjoy doing that job.
After I had been working and saved up my money that I made, I would want to start my own ranch. I would have lots and lots of cattle. I grew up on a sheep farm and I love sheep but there is a part of me that wants to have cattle. I would try to find some really cute and hard working cowboy to help me out of my ranch. I think cowboys are really cute and that is one reason I think it would be great fun to travel in Kansas and Oklahoma because of the people out there. I know that is not a very good reason but it works for me.
I would also have to have a pet dog. I have three dogs back home but I want a dog that is my best friend. I would want a black lab puppy. I would want him to live inside with me so my house would not be so lonely. His name would be Kyle. If I was going to run away and start a new life this is how I would want. I would have it planned out a lot more than Chris did his trip. I would also tell my parents where I was going so I guess it would not be running away but just a way for me to start a new life for myself.
Into the Wild & My Zine
I have really enjoyed reading about Chris McCandless’s journey from Into the Wild. I think he is a very interesting person and did something that I would never be able to do. I respect him because he was able to hitchhike and travel so far with very little. I do not have a strong hate for him but I would not say that I really like him either. I think the way that he left his family was very wrong. They were just trying to give him a good life and that might have come across the wrong way in his mind. I don’t think the way he just left and did not even tell his parents was the right way to go about his journey. I would never be able to do that to my family, but from the way Krakauer tells the story it seems like Chris had some very good reason from doing what he did. He seems like a very nice and respectful young man. He is able to make friend really fast no matter what. He became friends with Wayne, who ends up giving him a job. I think that Chris and Wayne became very good friends. Chris trusted him and gave him some of his possession just in case he did not make it out of Alaska alive. Chris also became friends with Jan and her boyfriend, but no matter who he became friends with Chris would keep them at arm’s length. I think the really reason the Chris does not become close with his friends is because he does not what them to act like his parents. He did not want to become tied down by anyone. I also don’t think Chris was the smartest person on the way he went into Alaska and the other places he traveled too. He would have never made it to Alaska without the help of other people he met throughout his trip. I think the fact that he went into Alaska without the things he needed was very stupid. I don’t understand why he went into one of the harshest places on earth without the right possessions. I do not think that Chris went into Alaska planning on dying, but I think he thought he was stronger and more able than he really was. I think Chris was planning on starting his life back up once he was done with his time in Alaska. Chris went to Bullhead City and got a job for about two months just to see if he could fit back into the regular world. This shows me that Chris wanted to see what it would be like after he has finished his journey of the wild. Chris started this trip to invent a new life for himself but I think he just wanted to stop living by rules. He had been doing everything that his parents had wanted him to do and this was his way of living the life he had dreamed about having.
My Zine
For my Zine, I’m thinking about doing it over a very important time in my life. I’m going to do my Zine over my time in the 4-H program and my involvement in the sheep industry. The reason, I want to do my Zine over my 10 years in the 4-H program is because it has helped build me into the person I am today. With doing 4-H, it helped me decide on my future career in agriculture. I also want my Zine to be over my sheep. The real reason I started 4-H was because of the sheep that my family have. I think it will be a lot of fun to do my Zine over those two topics. A lot of people don’t know about sheep or the 4-H program, so this will be a way of getting the news out about the great opportunities that come with being involved in them.
Filmlot Interview: Seth Gordon
The interview with Seth Gordon is very interesting to me. Seth is the director of the film The King of Kong. This is a movie about a battle going on between two men in the world of competitive arcade games. Seth was in Architecture then made a move to filmmaking. I think it is very cool how Seth found this story of Steven Wiebe and Billy. The person who really uncovered this story is a friend of Seth Gordon. Ed Cunningham is the producer of Kong and movie that Seth made. Ed is the person who found this great story between to great arcade gamers. Ed Cunningham was in Seattle to visit friends when Steven Wiebe and his friend Mike Thompson who appears in the film, go out to have drinks one night. This was a little after they had gone into Steven Wiebe’s garage and taken his game apart. Steve Wiebe told Ed Cunningham about the whole thing and Ed told Seth Gordon about it and that is how this film got started.
I think that Seth Gordon does an outstanding job showing us how things are in the world of competitive arcade games. As Gordon says in this interview, “what made it really interesting was seeing the people behind the competitors and the polities behind the scenes.” I think that Gordon does a great up at showing us this in the film how important Billy’s opinion is. It seems to me that everyone cares what Billy says because he has been around for so along. One person who really cares is Brian Kuh. In the film Brian Kuh goes around telling everyone that there is about to be a kill scene, because he does not want Steve Wiebe to break Billy’s record. He looks up to Billy and wants him to be able to stay on the top in the game world. I find Billy and his friends very entertaining in this film.
I think the fact that Seth Gordon and his crew were not able to use all stuff they had on Billy is very interesting. By the end of the film, I did not like Billy at all. Just like Seth says, “the archetypes of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are very present” Billy being the bad guy like Darth Vader and Steve Wiebe is the good guy Luke Skywalker. I think Billy brings most of this on himself. He just seems very different to me. He seems like he has everyone under his power. Seth Gordon says in the interview, “All I’m saying is, the stuff he did to keep tabs on Steve and control him, was far greater than we could actually show. He is a true puppet master” and I agree with this. It seems like Billy had everyone on his side and Steven had to work to gain any respected at all. In the end the good guy wins. I also find it very cool that Seth Gordon had finished the film and it was all ready to be submitted to the festival when Wiebe broke Billy’s record. The fact that Billy is no longer on the board at twin Galaxies is funny to me. I think Billy has finally got what he had coming for him. Billy had got Steve Wiebe’s record thrown out once and was trying to do it again before he got thrown off the board. I feel sorry that the Twin Galaxies is falling apart because of the movie, but I think the really reason is because arcade games are the thing of the past
Film
I have watched a lot of movies over my life time, but one movie that still stands out to me is Remember the Titans. This movie was released in 2000. The movie was based on a true story from 1970. The major plot of the story was that two schools came together as one. When the two schools became one the school now had different race of students all together at school. With the two schools coming together the football program got a new head coach and he is an African American. The football team is what the story is about but it is not just about winning or losing. It is about how the boys on the team became one. The players and the community had many tensions and fights. When the team left for football camp they did not like each other but things changed when they came back. They had respect for each other. The football players helped the community accept the changes that were happened. The players did this though wining games and showing everyone that it did not matter what race you are you can respect and become friends. This is a very interesting movie. It has taught me to change the way I look and think about people.
When I first saw Remember the Titans I was about 10 years old. I did not really understand what all was going on in the movie. I thought it was just about a football team and the season, but I was so wrong. In this movie there is a lot deep meaning and moving shots captured. I did not understand why the football players did not like each other, but when I was a little older I started to understand. I think this movie has a lot of great shots in it. It was a very moving movie for me. It goes to show how far we have come since the 1970’s and before. The movie shows how people for different races can before friends.
Remember the Titan’s is a movie that I think everyone should watch at some point in their life time. When I watch the movie now, I have a whole new understanding and respect for the players from the team and people from that time in history. This movie just goes to show you how everyone is the same. We are all humans and should be treated the same way. It does not matter if you are white, black or even blue, we are the same.
My tattoo..!!
I think getting a tattoo would be fun to do. If I were going to get a tattoo I would get three little heart. The hearts would be very simple. I would get each heart a different color. The heart would stand for all the love in my life. I think I’m one of the luckiest people in the world because of all people that love me. One of the hearts would stand for my parents. My parents have always been there for me. They have supported me throughout my life. One of the other hearts would stand of my friends and family. My friends and family have also helped me though a lot of tough times the past couple years. The third heart would stand for my true love. It would stand for whoever god has in his plan for me to marry and spend the rest of my life with. I would get my heart tattoo on my lower back. This is something that is very close to my heart and I would not want everyone to be able to see it. I would have my tattoo be private from the public.

Roger Sipher makes six arguments for why getting rid of the compulsory-attendance laws would help the American Education System. The six arguments are divided up into three groups. The first groups of arguments are that the students that do not want to learn should not have to go to school. When the students are made to go it just ends up making it hard on the student who want to learn. The second group of arguments is that the grades would reflect how the students are doing and how much they are improving over time. The third group for arguments say that by getting rid of the compulsory attendance laws the school and the member of the community would be saving money.
